Cypherock splits one key across a Vault and four cards, while the Trezor Safe 7 keeps one key behind three chips and a touchscreen. Trezor is easier and has a known price and Canadian reseller. Cypherock's price and Canada terms were not published where I could check.

What Happens If You Lose Your Cypherock X1 Or Trezor Safe 7?

Cypherock X1: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: no seed phrase backups: Shamir split across X1 Vault and four X1 Cards; also BIP39 compatible with distributed entropy. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 1 security issue is on record for the maker, the latest on 2025-11-21 (DARKNAVY USB and firmware tampering research).

Trezor Safe 7: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 12-, 20- and 24-word backup; Advanced multi-share backup (Shamir). Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 6 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-09-09 (Brevo newsletter provider breach, phishing from Trezor's address).

Which Is More Secure, Cypherock Or Trezor?

I am setting the Cypherock X1 against the Trezor Safe 7, and the philosophies could not be further apart. The Safe 7 is one device that holds one key behind three chips from three vendors: the auditable TROPIC01, an EAL6+ Optiga secure element and an STM32U5 microcontroller. Its firmware is open source, with a changelog and signed binaries on GitHub. The Cypherock X1 spreads the key across five pieces: an X1 Vault and four X1 Cards, with the key split by Shamir's Secret Sharing. The cards are NFC smartcards with EAL6+ secure elements, the Vault has a dual-chip design and Cypherock says it is open source with secure element.

Think of it as concentration against distribution. A Trezor has one thing to protect. A Cypherock has five, and losing one or stealing one is not enough to take the wallet.

Records, because both have them. Trezor: June 3, 2026, Ledger Donjon extracted a subset of TROPIC01 secrets by laser fault injection (needs the device, chip decapsulation and lab equipment; Trezor says PIN, funds and backup are not exposed because that chip is one of three layers). Trezor also had the ShipMonk fulfilment breach (August 13, 2026) and the Brevo email-vendor breach (September 9, 2026), neither touching devices or keys. Cypherock: in November 2025, DARKNAVY published a demonstration of a tampered X1 that could control new seed generation, after reporting two USB vulnerabilities in March 2025. It was a simulated supply-chain attack; no customer incidents were reported. DARKNAVY says Cypherock pushed patches to GitHub without acknowledging the report, which is the researchers' account, and I could not find Cypherock's reply (DARKNAVY write-up). The lesson on both sides: buy sealed, direct, and verify the device on first use.

Which Is Easier To Use?

Trezor, clearly. The Safe 7 has a 2.5 inch colour touchscreen with haptic feedback, Bluetooth, USB-C and Qi2 charging, and Trezor Suite runs on Android, Mac, Windows and Linux with full iOS compatibility. Backups are 12, 20 or 24 words, with an Advanced Shamir option, and a passphrase is supported. I keep my ETH, SOL and XRP on a Trezor Safe 7 and a Tangem card, so I know the daily routine. Cypherock uses the cySync app and has you tap cards to the Vault. The pages I fetched do not state a screen spec or how the Vault connects, so I will not describe it. Having five pieces to store is a discipline problem more than a technical one.

Which Supports More Coins?

The XRP question comes up for Trezor all the time, and my answer is yes: I hold XRP on a Safe 7. For Cypherock I cannot give you a number or confirm XRP, so ask before you buy.

Which Costs Less In Canada?

I cannot tell you which is cheaper because Cypherock's price is not on a page I could fetch. Trezor is $249 USD. CBSA only waives duty on parcels up to CAD 20 (non-US) or CAD 40 (US). Buy the Safe 7 through my Trezor Safe 7 link, and look at Cypherock at cypherock.com. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre advises buying wallets directly from the maker, which matters most with a five-piece kit.

How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?

Both give you a receive address. Coinbase asks whether you are sending to self-custody and has a "Sending to myself" box. Kraken's Travel Rule pop-up appears from CAD 1,000. Bull Bitcoin pays straight to your wallet with no fee on on-chain payouts (minimum 0.001 BTC). Moves between wallets you own are not dispositions for the CRA.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose the Trezor Safe 7 if you want a screen, a known price, open firmware and a Canadian reseller. It is my number one. Choose Cypherock only if you specifically want a five-way key split, can store the pieces apart and have confirmed price, coins and Canadian shipping with Cypherock directly. My Cypherock X1 review has more. Related: Cypherock vs Tangem, Cypherock vs Ledger and the best crypto wallets in Canada.
