D'CENT is a fingerprint-and-screen device with an unexplained September 2026 App Wallet incident and no Canadian duty cover yet. Tangem is a screenless NFC card with a confirmed Canada delivery line and published audits, but a patch-free laser attack on record.
D'CENT Vs Tangem: Which Is Better For Canadians?
For most Canadians, the Tangem Wallet is the better pick because it scores 9.4 against 8.4 on my list.
D'CENT Biometric Wallet
8.4/10#7 on my list of the best crypto wallets in Canada
What Happens If You Lose Your D'CENT Biometric Wallet Or Tangem Wallet?
D'CENT Biometric Wallet: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: recovery words generated on the device (24-word); recovery sheet in box. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 1 security issue is on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-09-16 (Unauthorized asset transfers from the D'CENT App Wallet).
Tangem Wallet: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: Seedless by design: extra cards back each other up (2 or 3 card sets); a 12-word seed is optional for advanced users. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 2 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-07-09 (Ledger Donjon laser attack on Tangem cards).

Which Is More Secure, D'CENT Or Tangem?
This is a pairing where the incident history matters more than the spec sheet. D'CENT's Biometric Wallet has a CC EAL5+ secure chip, a fingerprint sensor (up to two fingerprints, or a 4 to 8 digit PIN) and a real on-device screen with buttons. Tangem has no screen at all: an EAL6+ chip in a card, approved by tap, with an access code or biometrics in the phone app.
The screen is the point. On the D'CENT you can read what you are signing on the device. On Tangem you read it in the app on your phone, which is the same phone an attacker would target.
Now the record. On September 16, 2026, unauthorised transfers began from addresses whose recovery phrase had ever been typed into D'CENT's software App Wallet on versions before 8.1.0. That includes hardware-wallet seeds that were ever restored into that app, across Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRPL, TRON and EVM chains. D'CENT told users to update, create new recovery phrases and move assets, and said it is working with law enforcement. As of its September 17 report the cause was not published and no loss figure was given (D'CENT incident report). If you have never typed your seed into the App Wallet, the device itself is not what that report describes, but I would still want the cause published before I trusted a new purchase.
Tangem's own mark is the July 9, 2026 Ledger Donjon laser attack: it needs the physical card and about $250,000 of lab equipment, and since cards cannot be updated it cannot be patched. Tangem also fixed a 2024 app bug that logged a private key for a small group who activated with a seed phrase. On the plus side it has independent audits from Riscure (December 2, 2023) and Cure53 (March 1, 2026).
Which Is Easier To Use?
Tangem wins on simplicity: tap, approve, done, no battery, no cable, no recovery words unless you choose the optional 12-word seed. D'CENT is a small device with a fingerprint reader that connects by Bluetooth LE 4.1 or USB-C, runs on a 530 mAh lithium battery and needs charging. It generates a 24-word phrase on the device and supports a passphrase on top. More moving parts, more control.
Which Supports More Coins?
Coin Support: D'CENT Vs Tangem

D'CENT Biometric
Tangem

Yes: one secret word added to the 24-word phrase
Not stated on the pages I fetched; an access code protects the wallet
Both menus are huge, and for ETH, SOL and XRP they are both fine. I keep ETH, SOL and XRP on a Trezor Safe 7 and a Tangem card, so Tangem is a wallet I have used for exactly that.

D'CENT Biometric
Tangem
Price (USD)
$79 on sale (50% off $159); 2X package $149 (was $318)

Ships to Canada
The store lists duty cover for US, UK/EU and Japan and says Canada is "coming soon"
Yes: 4-11 business days, $16.00 shipping, free over $100
Duties
Not covered: import tax is the buyer's responsibility
Prices exclude taxes and duties; customs fees may apply
This is where D'CENT loses Canadians. The store's own wording is that Canada duty coverage is "coming soon", so you may owe import tax at the door (CBSA's rule for non-US parcels is duty free only up to CAD 20). Tangem lists Canada outright. Buy Tangem through my link, with 10% off using my code OCRYPTOCANADA. If you still want the D'CENT, the D'CENT store link is here but check delivery and duties at checkout first.
How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Both just need a receiving address. Wealthsimple allows external wallet withdrawals up to CAD 10,000 a day after a selfie ID check, and recommends a small test send. NDAX shows a "Who are you sending to?" Travel Rule prompt above CAD 1,000, and "Sending to myself" skips the extra questions. Moving coins between your own wallets is not a disposition for the CRA.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose Tangem if you want something simple that ships to Canada with no ambiguity, backs itself up with extra cards and has audits you can read. Start with my Tangem review.
Choose D'CENT only if the fingerprint and on-device screen matter to you, you have never entered a seed into its App Wallet, and you are comfortable with the September incident still being unexplained and Canadian duty cover not yet live. It is #7 in my ranking. Otherwise compare D'CENT vs Trezor or see the best crypto wallets in Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Crypto Wallet Is The Safest?
No wallet is safest in every case. Screens, open code, audits and your own habits all matter. I rank Trezor Safe 7 first, Tangem second and Ledger Flex third. See the best crypto wallets in Canada page.
Which Is Better, D'CENT Wallet Or Ledger?
D'CENT has a fingerprint sensor and a lower sale price, but Canada duty cover is still "coming soon" and it had an App Wallet incident in September 2026. Ledger Flex ships through a Canadian storefront at CA$369. See my Ledger Flex review.
Can I Lose My XRP In A Cold Wallet?
Yes, if you lose the card or device and the backup, or if a seed is exposed. XRP sits on the ledger, and the wallet only holds the keys. I keep XRP on a Trezor Safe 7 and a Tangem card and I keep my backups apart.
Where Is The D'Cent Wallet Made?
The D'CENT pages I checked do not state the maker's country, so I will not guess. Its store lists duty coverage for the US, UK/EU and Japan.
Does D'CENT Ship To Canada?
Its store lists Canada as "coming soon" for duty coverage, so expect to pay shipping and possibly import tax to Canadian customs. Confirm at checkout.
