The D'CENT Biometric Wallet is a Bluetooth and USB-C hardware wallet with a fingerprint sensor, physical navigation buttons and an on-device screen. D'CENT's store showed it at USD 79 on October 3, 2026, a 50% sale off USD 159, and says it supports 10,000+ assets across 100+ blockchains. It is number 7 on my best crypto wallets in Canada list. The honest caveat: in September 2026 D'CENT reported unauthorized transfers from its software App Wallet, and the store lists duty coverage for Canada as "coming soon".
- Best for: people who want to approve payments with a fingerprint instead of typing a PIN every time
- Skip it if: you want open-source firmware (D'CENT does not state it) or a seamless Canadian delivery with duties handled for you
- Price: USD 79 on sale, USD 159 regular, as shown on D'CENT's store
- Where it sits: number 7 of my top 7, behind Trezor Safe 7, Tangem, Ledger Flex, OneKey Pro, SafePal S1 and SecuX V20
- PriceUSD 79 (sale, 50% off USD 159) on D'CENT store at check time; 2X package USD 149 (was 318)
- Secure ElementCC EAL5+ certified secure chip
- ConnectionBluetooth Low Energy 4.1 and USB-C (USB OTG)
- Backuprecovery words generated on the device (24-word); recovery sheet in box
I tested the D'CENT Biometric Wallet alongside the other six in my top 7. It earns its place for one reason: the fingerprint sensor is a real convenience that most competitors do not offer. It lands last on the list because the brand has had a rough few weeks, and because buying it from Canada is less tidy than buying from Trezor, Tangem or Ledger.
If you want background on the maker, my D'CENT S review covers the card wallet from the same company. D'CENT has also rebranded the name to DCENT, so you will see both spellings.

What Is The D'CENT Biometric Wallet And Who Is It For?
It is a pocket-sized signer that adds a fingerprint reader to the usual hardware wallet formula. You get an on-device screen, physical navigation buttons, Bluetooth for your phone and USB-C for a computer or Android device. Instead of tapping in a PIN every time, you touch the sensor. The device holds up to two fingerprints, and the 4 to 8 digit PIN is there as the alternative.
That suits a specific person. Maybe you move money often, or you find long PINs fiddly on a small device, or you simply want the convenience of a phone-style unlock on a cold wallet. If you would rather have a card-sized wallet with no screen, look at the D'CENT S or the Tangem card. If you want the device my own coins sit on, that is the Trezor Safe 7 in my top spot.
How Secure Is The D'CENT Biometric Wallet?
The keys live in a CC EAL5+ certified secure chip. That is one grade below the EAL6+ chips in the D'CENT S card, the Tangem card and the Ledger Flex, so it is a small step down on paper. The recovery words, 24 of them, are generated on the device itself, and you can add a passphrase, which adds one secret word on top of the 24. If you hold anything significant, consider setting one.
The fingerprint sensor is a convenience layer, not the foundation. Your backup phrase is what actually recovers your funds, so the usual rules apply: write the 24 words on the recovery sheet, keep them offline and never photograph them. D'CENT does not state on its product page whether the firmware is open source, so I cannot tell you that it is.
The important warning concerns the software, not the hardware. D'CENT reported that unauthorized transfers began on September 16, 2026 from addresses whose recovery phrase had ever been entered into its DCENT App Wallet, the software wallet, while on app versions before 8.1.0. That includes seeds from hardware wallets that were ever restored into the App Wallet. D'CENT told users to update the app, create new recovery phrases and move assets. Its incident report gives the details it has released. The takeaway for a hardware wallet buyer is simple: never type your hardware wallet's recovery phrase into any app, which defeats the purpose of owning the device.
How Much Does The D'CENT Biometric Wallet Cost In Canada?
D'CENT's store shows USD 79 for the Biometric Wallet on sale, half of the USD 159 regular price. That sale price can end, so check the live figure. The store's 2X package was USD 149, down from USD 318.
Duties are where Canada gets awkward. The store says import duties are covered for the US, the UK and EU, and Japan, and that Australia, Canada and India are "coming soon". For everywhere else, the customer pays shipping and may owe import tax to local customs. Under CBSA rules, a courier shipment from outside the US and Mexico is duty and tax free only up to CAD 20, and above that duties and taxes apply. The duty rate for a hardware wallet itself is not something I can confirm, so ask the courier or CBSA before you count on the sale price. If you decide to buy, use my D'CENT link.
How Do You Set Up The D'CENT Biometric Wallet?
Setup uses the DCENT app and the device prompts. D'CENT's pages describe the main pieces, and I list them in the sensible order.
- Charge the device. It has a 530 mAh battery, so give it a charge before first use.
- Install the DCENT app. Pair by Bluetooth, or connect with USB-C.
- Create a wallet on the device. The 24 recovery words are generated on the device itself, never in the app.
- Write the words on the recovery sheet. Keep them offline, away from phones and clouds.
- Register a fingerprint or set a PIN. You can store up to 2 fingerprints, or use a 4 to 8 digit PIN.
- Consider a passphrase. It adds one secret word to your 24 words.
- Send a small test first. Check the address on the device screen before moving real money.
Does The D'CENT Biometric Wallet Work With Canadian Exchanges?
Yes, since a hardware wallet is simply an address you control. Withdraw from the exchange to that address and confirm it on the device screen before you approve anything.
The exchange adds a prompt for larger sums. Canada's travel rule, in force since June 1, 2021, covers transfers of CAD 1,000 or more. Coinbase lets you tick "sending to myself" for your own wallet. NDAX asks "Who are you sending to?" and needs nothing more if it is you. Kraken shows a travel rule pop-up for withdrawals of CAD 1,000 or more. Newton needs the address saved and verified in its Address Book first. Wealthsimple Crypto supports external wallets, with a selfie check before your first withdrawal.
For taxes, the CRA says that transferring crypto between wallets you own is not a taxable disposition. Keep your records anyway, as my crypto taxation in Canada guide explains.
Which Coins Does The D'CENT Biometric Wallet Support?
D'CENT says 10,000+ assets across 100+ blockchains, and you can add custom token accounts yourself if a token is missing. Those are D'CENT's own figures. Because the pages I checked do not list specific coins, confirm that your coin is supported in the DCENT app before you buy. The wallet does not come in a Bitcoin-only firmware, so if you want that, see the BitBox02.
What Are The D'CENT Biometric Wallet Pros And Cons?
Pros
- Fingerprint unlock for up to 2 fingerprints
- On-device screen and physical buttons
- Bluetooth and USB-C connections
- 24 recovery words generated on the device, plus a passphrase
- 10,000+ assets across 100+ blockchains
- Low sale price of USD 79 at the time of checking
Cons
- EAL5+ chip, a grade below several rivals
- No statement that the firmware is open source
- September 2026 App Wallet incident, cause not yet published
- Canada duty coverage listed as "coming soon"
- No Bitcoin-only edition
Is The D'CENT Biometric Wallet Worth It For Canadians?
It depends on how much the fingerprint matters to you. At USD 79 it is a cheap way to get a screen, buttons, Bluetooth and a biometric unlock in one device. As a first hardware wallet it is fine, provided you keep the recovery phrase out of every app.
It is number 7 because the competition is stronger at the top and because Canadian delivery is less clear. For the same money or slightly more, a Tangem card gives you a chip with a higher EAL grade, and the Trezor Safe 7 gives you open firmware. Is Moving Crypto To A D'CENT Wallet Taxable In Canada?

What Is Better Than The D'CENT Biometric Wallet?
