The ELLIPAL X Card is a USD 59 card with no screen, and the Keystone 3 Pro is a USD 149 air-gapped touchscreen. The card is cheaper and more portable, but only Keystone lets you check the transaction on the device.

What Happens If You Lose Your ELLIPAL X Card Or Keystone 3 Pro?

ELLIPAL X Card: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: create 12/18/24-word seed; recover 12/15/18/21/24-word; link several cards to one wallet as backups. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 1 security issue is on record for the maker, the latest on 2019-06-25 (Ledger Donjon seed extraction from Ellipal).

Keystone 3 Pro: The maker does not publish its backup method clearly, so check it before you fund the wallet. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 1 security issue is on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-04-01 (Keystone 3 Pro USB SDK flaw).

CBSA courier thresholds: shipments from outside the US and Mexico are duty and tax free only up to CAD 20, and from the US or Mexico up to CAD 40, so expect taxes on any hardware wallet. Buy from the maker or an authorised reseller only.

Which Is More Secure, ELLIPAL Or Keystone?

Both ELLIPAL and Keystone sell themselves on keeping the device offline, but the two approaches look nothing alike. The X Card is a USD 59 NFC card with no screen. The Keystone 3 Pro is a USD 149 air-gapped touchscreen that signs over QR codes. I name the ELLIPAL Titan 2.0 here only to point out it is a larger sibling, and compare the X Card because it is the one Canadians search for.

On chips, ELLIPAL cites an EAL6+ secure chip, and Keystone says it has three secure element chips whose models it does not name on the page I read. Keystone is open source and adds fingerprint verification and a self-destruct tamper design. The X Card has a Card-PIN of 6 to 16 digits and resets after 10 wrong attempts. Wallet creation happens offline on a separate "Starter".

The practical gap is the screen. With the Keystone you read the destination and amount on a 4 inch display before approving. With the X Card you rely on the app on your phone, and I count that as a weakness against any device that has its own display.

Record: Ledger's Donjon team published a 2019 write-up of flaws in an ELLIPAL device, including a physical-access seed extraction, though I could not confirm the model (Ledger's write-up). Keystone's record is a March 2026 USB SDK flaw, found jointly with OneKey's Anzen team and fixed in firmware v2.4.0 on April 1, 2026. It needed physical possession, the PIN and an unlocked device, and the QR path avoids USB.

Which Is Easier To Use?

The X Card is very small: tap it on your phone, enter the PIN and approve in the ELLIPAL app, which runs on Android and iOS with WalletConnect for dApps. There is no battery to charge, and ELLIPAL quotes a 30 year lifespan. Keystone needs the camera dance of QR scanning each way, runs on a USB-C charged battery and pairs with MetaMask, OKX Wallet, Rabby, Backpack and UniSat. If you want the simplest daily flow, the card wins. If you want a second look at the transaction, Keystone wins.

Which Supports More Coins?

ELLIPAL claims 10,000+ tokens across 45+ blockchains and NFTs on Ethereum and Polygon. Keystone offers multi-coin firmware for all major cryptocurrencies, a BTC-only firmware, and works with 100+ wallets. ELLIPAL's numbers are a long-tail count, so search for your exact token first. Keystone's BTC-only mode matters for people who hold only Bitcoin and want less code on the device.

Which Costs Less In Canada?

Shipping To CanadaShipping policy lists Canada at 7 to 15 business daysCanada listed, insured shipping 10 to 15 days

The X Card is under half the price of the Keystone. ELLIPAL lists Canada at 7 to 15 business days, and Keystone lists it at 10 to 15 with insured shipping. Neither has a Canadian reseller on my list, so expect cross-border delivery and perhaps duties. My code OCryptoCanada takes 5% off a Keystone order.

How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?

Both receive from any exchange as normal addresses. Bull Bitcoin pays Bitcoin out to your own wallet with no fee on-chain (minimum 0.001 BTC) and Lightning, which pairs nicely with Keystone's BTC-only firmware. NDAX asks "Who are you sending to?" above CA$1,000, and "Sending to myself" needs no extra information. See the NDAX review for limits.

A word on risk sizing. A cheap card is a good home for a modest balance or a backup copy, and a bigger screen is worth paying for as the balance grows, because the cost of approving the wrong address rises with it. Whichever you choose, send a small test amount first and compare the first and last characters of the address on the device, not only in the app.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose the ELLIPAL X Card if you want the cheapest, smallest cold storage and can live without a screen on the device.

Choose the Keystone 3 Pro if you want to see what you sign, want open-source hardware and a Bitcoin-only option, and the extra USD 90 is not a problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ellipal A Good Crypto Wallet?

The X Card is a cheap, battery-free NFC card with an EAL6+ chip and a PIN that resets after 10 wrong attempts. Its main limit is no screen, so you check transactions on your phone. A 2019 Ledger Donjon write-up found flaws in an ELLIPAL device, and I could not confirm which model.

What Is The Most Trusted Cold Wallet?

I judge on openness and speed of fixes, and no brand is perfect. My own ranking is the Trezor Safe 7 first, Tangem second and Ledger Flex third. Keystone and ELLIPAL are outside my top seven.

Is Ellipal Better Than Ledger?

It is much cheaper at USD 59 against USD 249 for the Ledger Flex, but it has no screen, and the Flex shows the transaction on the device. See my ELLIPAL vs Ledger page.

Is Keystone Wallet Good?

Yes, for people who want air-gapped QR signing, open-source hardware and software, a 4 inch screen and fingerprint sensor, and a BTC-only firmware. A 2026 USB flaw was fixed in firmware v2.4.0, and the QR path avoids USB.

Is Either Wallet Taxable In Canada?

Buying a wallet is not a taxable event. Moving your own coins between wallets is not a disposition per the CRA, but selling, swapping or spending crypto can be taxable, so keep records. See crypto taxation in Canada.

Which Is Cheaper, The ELLIPAL X Card Or The Keystone 3 Pro?

ELLIPAL X Card: USD 59 (X Card). Keystone 3 Pro: USD 149 (Keystone 3 Pro); bundle pack USD 232.90 (saves USD 23).

Do The ELLIPAL X Card And The Keystone 3 Pro Ship To Canada?

ELLIPAL X Card: yes by implication: Canada (CAD) selectable in the store country list. Keystone 3 Pro: Ships to Canada.
