SecuX wallets are some of the most underrated hardware wallets on the market. While Ledger and Trezor dominate the headlines, this Taiwanese manufacturer offers military-grade security with massive 2.8-inch color touchscreens, support for over 10,000 cryptocurrencies, and premium build quality – all at prices that undercut the competition.

Today I’m reviewing two SecuX models: the V20 at $139 and the newer Neo-X at $179. Both share the same core security and touchscreen experience, but with key differences that might make one perfect for you and the other a waste of money.

I purchased both models and tested them for 30 days. Let me share my findings, particularly focusing on which model offers the best value and who should buy which one.

Pros (Both Models):

Desktop Web App Support via SecuXess The V20 works with both mobile app AND desktop web app (SecuXess). The Neo-X is mobile-only.

Premium Aluminum Body Construction The V20 features a polished aluminum chassis that feels incredibly premium and durable at 120g. It’s substantially heavier and more robust than plastic wallets, providing excellent physical protection. The Neo-X has a modernized design but isn’t the same traditional aluminum build.

Pros (Neo-X Only):

The NFT even displays on the lock screen. The V20 cannot display NFTs on-device – you can only view them through the app.

Includes X-SEED Metal Backup Kit ($59 Value) Every Neo-X purchase includes the X-SEED metal backup kit for storing your 24-word recovery phrase. This fireproof and waterproof metal storage solution resists temperatures up to 2649°F (1454°C). This is a $59 separate purchase for V20 users, meaning the Neo-X’s real premium is only $40 – $59 = essentially FREE if you were planning to buy metal backup anyway.

Modernized Design for 2025 The Neo-X represents SecuX’s latest design language – slimmer, more refined, and built for modern crypto users. While the V20 feels premium but older, the Neo-X looks current and forward-thinking.

Newer Secure Element Chip The Neo-X uses the latest Infineon SLE 97 chip (still EAL5+ certified like the V20). While security level is identical, the newer chip represents SecuX’s commitment to using the latest technology.

Cons (Both Models):

Closed-Source Firmware Like Ledger, SecuX does not publish its firmware source code. While both models use certified EAL5+ secure elements, privacy advocates and experienced crypto users prefer the complete transparency found in open-source wallets like Trezor or Coldcard. You must trust SecuX’s security audits rather than verifying the code yourself.

Limited Brand Recognition SecuX is a Taiwanese company with far less name recognition than Ledger or Trezor. This means fewer third-party integrations, smaller community support, and less extensive tutorial resources. You’re essentially betting on an underdog brand.

Bluetooth Security Trade-offs While SecuX uses AES-256 encryption and 2-factor authentication for Bluetooth, any wireless connectivity introduces potential attack vectors. Security purists prefer wired-only connections. However, no Bluetooth hacks have been reported as of 2025.

Battery Dependency Unlike simple USB-powered wallets, both models require periodic charging. If you leave them unused for months, you’ll need to charge before accessing funds. Not ideal for pure cold storage scenarios.

Complexity for Complete Beginners While the touchscreen interface is intuitive, both wallets can be overwhelming for people who’ve never owned hardware wallets. The learning curve is steeper than simpler button-based devices or wallet cards like Tangem.

No Native Staking in App Unlike Ledger Live which offers built-in staking for ETH, SOL, and other cryptos, the SecuX app doesn’t include native staking features. You’ll need to use third-party platforms.

Cons (V20 Only):

No On-Device NFT Display If you’re an NFT collector, the V20 can store your NFTs securely but cannot display them on the device screen. You must view them through the mobile or web app. This is the V20’s biggest limitation compared to Neo-X.

No Included Metal Backup Kit The V20 comes with paper recovery sheets only. If you want the fireproof X-SEED metal backup kit, you’ll pay an extra $59-89. The Neo-X includes this.

Older Design Language While still premium, the V20’s design feels more “2020” than “2025.” It’s chunkier and less refined than the Neo-X’s modern aesthetic.

Cons (Neo-X Only):

Mobile-Only, No Desktop Support The Neo-X doesn’t support the SecuXess web app for desktop use. You’re locked into mobile-only management via Bluetooth. If you prefer managing crypto on your computer or need desktop workflows, this is a dealbreaker.

Higher Price At $179, the Neo-X costs $40 more than the V20. If you don’t care about NFT display or already have a metal backup solution, you’re paying extra for features you won’t use.

Less Established As the newer model in SecuX’s lineup, the Neo-X has less real-world testing and fewer user reviews compared to the battle-tested V20.

How to Use SecuX Wallets

The setup process is identical for both V20 and Neo-X:

Initial Setup: Press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. The 2.8-inch color touchscreen displays a welcome screen. Tap “Get Started” to begin. Select your preferred language and press “Next.”

Create Your PIN: Enter a 4-8 digit PIN using the dynamic on-screen keypad (numbers randomize for security). Enter it twice to confirm. Write this PIN down separately from your recovery phrase.

Name Your Device: Create a device name using 1-15 characters. This appears during Bluetooth/USB connections.

Generate Recovery Phrase: Select “Yes” to set up a new wallet. The device generates your 24-word recovery phrase in four batches of 6 words.

CRITICAL: Write down ALL 24 words in exact order. For V20: use the included paper sheets. For Neo-X: use the X-SEED metal backup kit and engraving pen for permanent fireproof storage. Never store digitally or photograph.

Confirm Recovery Phrase: The device asks you to confirm specific words to ensure you recorded them correctly.

Connect to SecuX Mobile App: Download the SecuX Wallet app (iOS/Android). Turn on Bluetooth. Open the app and pair your device. Enter the one-time password shown on your device screen.

V20 Only – Connect to Desktop: Go to wallet.secuxtech.com/secuxess/ (Chrome or Opera browser). Choose USB or Bluetooth connection. Enter the one-time password from your device.

Add Cryptocurrency Wallets: In the app, add wallets for your desired cryptocurrencies. Choose from 10,000+ supported coins. Generate addresses for receiving funds.

Receive Crypto: Select a wallet and click “Receive.” Display your address and QR code. ALWAYS verify the address on your device’s secure screen before sharing.

Send Crypto: Select wallet and click “Send.” Enter recipient address, amount, and network fees. Review ALL details on your device’s large color screen. Tap “Approve” on device to sign the transaction.

Set Up Hidden Wallet (Optional): Go to Settings → Find “Hidden” icon. Create a different PIN and passphrase (1-99 characters). You now have a decoy wallet (main PIN) and hidden wallet (hidden PIN + passphrase).

Neo-X Only – Set Up NFT Display: In the SecuX app, go to dApps explorer. Connect to NFT marketplace (OpenSea, etc.). Purchase or send NFTs to your Neo-X address. Tap “Sync” button in app – your NFT now displays on the device screen, even when locked. Set your favorite NFT as the lock screen.

MetaMask Integration (Both Models): In MetaMask, click “Connect Hardware Wallet” → Select “SecuX” → Follow prompts. Your SecuX now secures all MetaMask transactions.

Are SecuX Wallets Safe?

Both the V20 and Neo-X are very secure, using military-grade features:

CC EAL5+ Secure Element: The highest crypto security certification. The same standard protecting billions of banking cards worldwide.

Offline Key Storage: Private keys never leave the secure element chip. Transactions are signed internally; only signed data is broadcast.

The Math: If you’re buying a V20 AND planning to buy the X-SEED metal backup kit separately ($59), you’d spend $139 + $59 = $198 total. The Neo-X costs $179, saving you $19 while adding NFT display. In this scenario, the Neo-X is obviously better value.

If you don’t need NFT display and won’t buy metal backup, save $40 and get the V20.

My Personal Opinion

Both SecuX wallets are outstanding values that punch way above their weight class. At $139-179, you’re getting features that cost $250-400 from bigger brands.

The V20 is the best value touchscreen hardware wallet under $150. Period. That massive color screen, military-grade security, aluminum body, and desktop+mobile support at $139 is unbeatable. It’s perfect for serious crypto users who manage diverse portfolios and need professional-grade tools without Ledger’s premium pricing.

The Neo-X is the best NFT hardware wallet under $200. If you collect NFTs and want to showcase your digital art on your wallet, there’s no competition at this price. Plus, the included X-SEED kit means you’re only paying $40 extra ($179 – $139 = $40) but getting $59 of metal backup, making it a $19 gain if you were buying backup anyway.

Versus Competitors:

• vs Ledger Nano X ($149): SecuX has much larger screens, more coins, premium construction. Ledger has better brand recognition and ecosystem. I’d choose SecuX for features, Ledger for peace of mind.
• vs Ledger Flex ($249): Flex has secure E-ink, but SecuX offers similar security with color touchscreen for $70-110 less.
• vs Trezor Model T ($179): Model T has open-source firmware (huge plus) and color touchscreen. Neo-X adds NFT display and metal backup. Trezor for privacy advocates, SecuX for NFT users.
• vs Tangem ($69): Tangem is ultra-portable card-style but has NO screen. SecuX provides on-device verification. Different use cases entirely.

My Concerns: The closed-source firmware bothers me. As a reviewer, I prefer the transparency of Trezor’s open-source approach. You’re trusting SecuX’s security audits rather than community verification.

The limited brand recognition also means if SecuX goes out of business, you’ll have less long-term support (though your crypto remains accessible via recovery phrase with any BIP39 wallet).

My Recommendation: For 90% of users with $150 budgets: Buy the V20. It’s the best value, has desktop support, and proven reliability.

For NFT collectors: Buy the Neo-X. The on-device display and included metal backup justify the premium.

For privacy maximalists: Skip both, buy Trezor or Coldcard. Open-source firmware is non-negotiable for maximum transparency.

Final Verdict: SecuX wallets are the best-kept secret in hardware wallet space. They offer flagship-level features at mid-range prices, backed by legitimate military-grade security. While they lack Ledger’s brand prestige and Trezor’s open-source philosophy, the actual hardware, security, and user experience are top-tier.

If you can look past the unknown brand name and trust the EAL5+ certifications, you’re getting incredible value. The V20 is my pick for best value under $150, and the Neo-X is my pick for best NFT wallet under $200.
