Arculus and the ELLIPAL X Card are both USD 60 NFC cards with no screen. Arculus has the smoother app and a cheap two-card bundle, and ELLIPAL gives you a standard writable seed with a passphrase.

For most Canadians, the ELLIPAL X Card is the better pick because it scores 7.5 against 7.4 on my list. My #1 wallet pick overall is the Trezor Safe 7 (9.6/10).

What Happens If You Lose Your Arculus Or ELLIPAL X Card?

Arculus: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: page says 'no stored recovery phrases'; buy multiple cards to split or back up crypto (a second card as backup); recovery method detail not. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app.

ELLIPAL X Card: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: create 12/18/24-word seed; recover 12/15/18/21/24-word; link several cards to one wallet as backups. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 1 security issue is on record for the maker, the latest on 2019-06-25 (Ledger Donjon seed extraction from Ellipal).

Which Is More Secure, Arculus Or ELLIPAL?

Two NFC cards with no screen, both near USD 60. At first glance they are the same product, but the way each handles creation and backup is different. The Arculus card is metal and approves after a PIN and biometrics in the phone app. The ELLIPAL X Card needs a separate "Starter" device to create the wallet offline, a Card-PIN of 6 to 16 digits, and factory resets after 10 wrong tries.

Both cite a Common Criteria EAL6+ chip. Arculus says it has no stored recovery phrases and suggests extra cards as backup, and I could not find a full recovery explanation on the pages I read. It also says it is SOC 2 Type II audited, which I could not confirm independently. ELLIPAL lets you create a 12, 18 or 24 word seed, recover from 12, 15, 18, 21 or 24 words, support a passphrase and link several cards to one wallet as backups. In plain terms, ELLIPAL gives you a standard seed you can write down and restore elsewhere, which matters if the company ever disappears.

Records: I found no incident for Arculus, though that may reflect its smaller footprint. For ELLIPAL, Ledger's Donjon team published a 2019 write-up of flaws in an ELLIPAL device, including a physical-access seed extraction and others that allowed a supply-chain backdoor. I could not confirm which model, and Ledger is a competitor (write-up). Neither company's cards show you the amount and address, so both rely on your phone's screen.

Which Is Easier To Use?

Arculus is the more polished tap-and-go: one card, the Arculus app on iOS and Android, and no desktop app. One customer review says Huawei phones are unsupported. ELLIPAL's flow is similar on Android and iOS with WalletConnect for dApps, but the separate Starter step adds complexity at setup. ELLIPAL quotes a 30 year lifespan with no battery or charging, and Arculus is a passive NFC card with no battery either.

Which Supports More Coins?

Arculus says 10,000+ coins and tokens, with 27 blockchains on its homepage and 50+ on a product page, which differ, and says it covers over 95% of crypto by market cap, with MetaMask and WalletConnect and an XRP card. ELLIPAL says 10,000+ tokens across 45+ blockchains plus NFTs on Ethereum and Polygon. The headline token counts match, so the chain count is where to look, and it is worth checking your exact coin on both sites.

Which Costs Less In Canada?

The X Card is USD 59 flat. The Arculus card was USD 59.76 on a markdown from USD 99.00, and its two-card bundle was USD 76.26, with tax not included. That bundle price is attractive since you want two cards anyway. ELLIPAL lists Canada at 7 to 15 business days; I could not confirm Arculus's Canadian shipping.

How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?

Both are just addresses. On Wealthsimple, expect a selfie ID check before your first external withdrawal, with a daily limit up to CA$10,000, and Shakepay's normal sends take 1 to 12 hours with fees covered. Coinbase and Kraken have their own Travel Rule steps. A transfer to your own wallet is not taxable per the CRA. Read my Coinbase review.

One practical point on backups. With either card, buy at least two and keep them in different places, because a lost single card with no written seed is a lost wallet. With ELLIPAL you also have the option of writing the seed down. With Arculus the second card is the backup the company points you to. Test a small recovery before you move real money: send a small amount, then rehearse restoring from your backup card, and only then top up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Most Trusted Cold Wallet?

No brand is spotless. My ranking is the Trezor Safe 7, Tangem and Ledger Flex. Neither Arculus nor ELLIPAL is in my top seven.

Is Arculus A Good Cold Wallet?

It is a quick metal NFC card with an EAL6+ chip, and I found no security incident. Arculus says no recovery phrase is stored, so you back up with a second card, and it has no screen, so you trust your phone. I could not confirm its SOC 2 audit independently.

Is Ellipal Trustworthy?

I found no 2026 incident, but Ledger Donjon published a 2019 write-up of flaws in an ELLIPAL device that I could not tie to a model. The X Card uses an EAL6+ chip, a Card-PIN and a factory reset after 10 wrong tries.

Which Cold Wallet Is Better, Tangem Or Ellipal?

Tangem is seedless and has audits from Riscure and Cure53 but cannot be patched against July 2026 laser research. ELLIPAL gives a standard seed you can write down. I rank Tangem second on my list. See OneKey vs Tangem.

Which Is Cheaper, The Arculus Or The ELLIPAL X Card?

Arculus: USD 59.76 now (was USD 99.00) for one Arculus card; Silver and Black 2-pack bundle USD 76.26 (MSRP USD 198). Tax not included. ELLIPAL X Card: USD 59 (X Card).

Do The Arculus And The ELLIPAL X Card Ship To Canada?

Arculus: Canada shipping not stated. ELLIPAL X Card: yes by implication: Canada (CAD) selectable in the store country list.
