Bitkey is a Bitcoin-only wallet with no seed phrase, priced at CA$360, and the Trezor Safe 7 is a multi-coin device with open firmware at USD 249. The honest one-line difference: Bitkey is built for ease and inheritance, Trezor for control.

What Happens If You Lose Your Bitkey Or Trezor Safe 7?
Bitkey: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: no seed phrase: 2-of-3 multisig (hardware key, phone app key with encrypted cloud backup, server key in an AWS Nitro Enclave); Recovery Contacts and integrated inheritance. Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 1 security issue is on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-08-01 (Relationship-enrollment bug).
Trezor Safe 7: Your coins are recorded on the blockchain, not stored inside the device. Recovery depends on the backup: 12-, 20- and 24-word backup; Advanced multi-share backup (Shamir). Keep that backup offline and never type it into a website or app. 6 security issues are on record for the maker, the latest on 2026-09-09 (Brevo newsletter provider breach, phishing from Trezor's address).

Bitkey has no seed phrase. The Trezor Safe 7 has a seed and a stack of chips. They are two different answers to the question of how a normal person should hold Bitcoin without losing it, and only one of them handles anything except Bitcoin.
Which Is More Secure, Bitkey Or Trezor?
Bitkey is a 2-of-3 multisig. One key lives on the hardware device, one on your phone with an encrypted cloud backup, and one on a server in an AWS Nitro Enclave. Any two sign. There is no seed phrase to write down, and Bitkey adds Recovery Contacts and integrated inheritance. The new Bitkey has an OLED touchscreen and a fingerprint sensor, and the hardware key is generated and stored offline in a secure enclave, though the chip is not named on the pages I fetched. The trade is that you rely on Block's server as one of three keys.
The Safe 7 is a single-key device with a 12, 20 or 24 word backup, optional multi-share (Shamir) backup and a passphrase. It runs three chips: TROPIC01, an EAL6+ Optiga secure element and an STM32U5, and its firmware is published and signed on GitHub. I could not confirm whether Bitkey's firmware is open source.
On record: on August 1, 2026 a researcher reported a bug in Bitkey's recovery-contact and inheritance enrolment. Block says an outside actor could not gain control of the wallet or move funds, found no evidence of exploitation and patched the app, recommending re-enrolment for a small cohort of second-generation users (Bitkey). Trezor's 2026 list: the June 3 TROPIC01 laser attack that needs possession and lab gear, and shipping-provider and newsletter-provider breaches in August and September that exposed contact data but no keys.
Which Is Easier To Use?
Bitkey is built for people who have never held a seed phrase. You work through an iOS or Android app over NFC, the device charges over USB-C and a single charge lasts up to a year. Recovery runs through your phone and your recovery contacts instead of a paper backup. The Safe 7 asks you to look after a seed, and gives you a 2.5 inch colour touchscreen, Bluetooth, USB-C, Qi2 charging and Trezor Suite on desktop. Bitkey is simpler. Trezor gives you more control.
Which Supports More Coins?
Bitkey is Bitcoin only. The Safe 7 supports thousands of coins and tokens, and I keep ETH, SOL and XRP on mine. If your portfolio is BTC alone, you lose nothing with Bitkey. If it is not, Bitkey is not an option.

Bitkey is the only wallet here with a CAD price I could see directly. The Safe 7's CAD price follows your delivery country at Trezor's checkout. Price is not the decider here. The seed question is.
How Do They Work With Canadian Exchanges?
For Bitcoin, simple. Bull Bitcoin pays out to your own wallet, with no fee on an on-chain payout (minimum 0.001 BTC, about an hour). Coinbase and Wealthsimple Crypto work too: tick "sending to myself" on Coinbase, and expect a selfie ID before your first external withdrawal at Wealthsimple. Moving Bitcoin between your own wallets is not a disposition for the CRA.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose Bitkey if you only hold Bitcoin, want no seed phrase, and want an inheritance plan built in. Choose the Trezor Safe 7 if you hold other coins, want to control a seed and passphrase yourself and want firmware you can inspect. Bitkey makes more sense for a family holding; Trezor makes more sense for a trader. One thing to weigh before you buy: seedless does not mean riskless. Your recovery depends on your phone, its cloud backup and the contacts you name, so set those up carefully on day one. And whichever you buy, buy it directly from the maker or an authorised store, which is also the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre's advice for hardware wallets. Block's engineering team also published an independent analysis of the Coldcard seed-generation bug, which at least shows the team reads wallet-security research.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bitkey A Good Wallet?
For Bitcoin only, yes. It uses a 2-of-3 multisig with no seed phrase, adds recovery contacts and inheritance, and the new model has a touchscreen and fingerprint sensor. You rely on Block's server as one of the three keys.
What Is The Most Trusted Cold Wallet?
None is flawless. Bitkey and Trezor both disclosed issues in 2026 and neither lost user funds in what I found. Pick by what you hold.
Is Bitkey Better Than Ledger?
Bitkey is simpler and seedless, and Bitcoin only. Ledger holds more coins and has a screen on the device. See my Bitkey Vs Ledger comparison.
Can A Trezor Wallet Be Hacked?
In a lab, yes: Ledger Donjon's laser attack on the Safe 7's TROPIC01 chip needs possession and equipment, and Trezor says funds stay safe because it is one of three layers. Use a passphrase and keep your backup offline.
Can Canadians Buy Bitkey?
The Buy button showed a CA$360 price when fetched from Canada. I could not find the shipping terms on the page, so confirm at checkout.
Which Is Cheaper, The Bitkey Or The Trezor Safe 7?
Bitkey: CA$360 for the new Bitkey; first-generation Bitkey CA$220. Trezor Safe 7: USD 249.
Do The Bitkey And The Trezor Safe 7 Ship To Canada?
